Chuck Mathena Center programming voted Mercer County’s best performing arts of 2023

The Chuck Mathena Center is thrilled to announce its programming has been voted Mercer County’s best performing arts of 2023 in Bluefield Daily Telegraph’s Readers Choice Awards. This title is a testament to CMC’s commitment to providing exceptional entertainment and cultural experiences for the community.

 

In 2023, the Chuck Mathena Center welcomed an impressive total of 57,831 individuals through its doors, marking a significant increase of more than 17,500 compared to the previous year. This surge in attendance shines as a glimmer of hope for the performing arts after the COVID-19 pandemic.

 

In a year filled with outstanding achievements, the Chuck Mathena Center hosted a remarkable 22 shows captivating audiences of all ages and interests. From the Missoula Children’s Theatre production of Beauty Lou and the Country Beast to Shake, Rattle, and Roll, a tribute to Elvis Presley, CMC showcased the diversity and talent of the performing arts, creating unforgettable moments for patrons.

 

Beyond the stage, the Chuck Mathena Center expanded its impact through the introduction of 10 daylight arts classes, fostering creativity and artistic expression within the community. The launch of the Generations Choir, directed by Allen Kade, brought together individuals of all ages, highlighting the power of music to unite and inspire.

 

Collaboration with Greg Barnett Photography resulted in a stunning visual representation of the performing arts in Mercer County with more than 20 students being featured in captivating images. These photographs showcase the talent and dedication to the arts fostered within southern West Virginia.

 

CMC’s commitment to community engagement was evident through the participation in various events, including the 4th of July celebration, Boo Bash, and the city of Princeton’s Christmas tree lighting.

 

The Chuck Mathena Center extends its deepest gratitude to the dedicated community members who have continuously supported and championed the performing arts in Mercer County. Without their unwavering commitment, these achievements and milestones would not have been possible.
